[RESOLVED] A Quick Question

If the Main Page is protected, shouldn't this be protected? --Blocco 21:04, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

Good call.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 21:06, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
I guess it really doesn't matter, as only approved accounts can edit anyway.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 21:07, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
That's a good point too. --Blocco 21:08, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

[RESOLVED] Community Guidelines and Roblox HQ links not currently working

When they changed the Builderman pages, they got rid of the old linking methods.

This is a shame because the wiki really should link to those pages. What should we do? --SNCPlay42 15:23, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

I fixed the links :)
15:42, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
I forgot we could link directly to the pages on the external help site. Guess I'm still thinking with the Offsite Links rule.
I'll find and fix the other links to them on the site.
Should we also add links to GetSatisfation etc? --SNCPlay42 15:46, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
Yea, I guess we can. It won't hurt anything :)
15:48, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
You do know we can still link to the Builderman pages, right? Here is an example, that links to roblox.com: Community Guidelines
Just use Builderman.aspx?id=[The ID here]. Also, the ID is the same as the one used in the zendesk links. --JulienDethurens 14:56, 17 January 2012 (EST)

[RESOLVED] PLEASE ADD STATISTICS PAGE

I like looking at the statistics and a link to that page here would be nice. :) Flurite - 21:29, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

[RESOLVED] Some Things to Change

The "Multiplayer" link has its first letter capitalized; it shouldn't. Same for the "Character", "Place" and "Script" links.

STOP CAPITALIZING THE FIRST LETTER OF LINKS IF THEY ARE IN A SENTENCE. Just because they're links doesn't mean they don't have to respect capitalization, seriously. >_>

Also, STOP USING THE ZENDESK LINKS! There is a way to do it that brings to a roblox.com page.

ROBLOX HQ link: http://www.roblox.com/Help/Builderman.aspx?id=222041

Thanks, Sncplay42, for fixing these. I can't wait to be an editor. I'll finally be able to change such things myself. :/
I don't even understand why we need editors. I mean, this is a closed wiki. It's not like any of us is going to vandalize the homepage or something.. --JulienDethurens 23:39, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
You'll understand when you're older. MrNicNac - Wiki Editor
That's the #1 excuse to not explain something to someone because you can't or don't want to. --JulienDethurens 00:44, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
I used to think that too. But to be honest, with age comes first-hand, natural experience. It's amazing how wrong I used to be on that subject. MrNicNac - Wiki Editor
Yes, but adults sometimes use that excuse even when it is wrong that you need to be older to understand. --JulienDethurens 01:09, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
I do agree with that. The phrase was probably derived from decades or centuries ago when it was, in fact, used as an explanation not an excuse. Nowadays, yes, most adults use it to wave off curiosity or save themselves from telling an explanation. It is sometimes pathetic. MrNicNac - Wiki Editor

[RESOLVED] The "General Help" link

I notice that that page is about the wiki, not the website. Should it be moved somewhere else on the page? --SNCPlay42 10:10, 28 January 2012 (EST)

Did it myself. --SNCPlay42 10:25, 28 January 2012 (EST)

[RESOLVED] Link

The logo shouldn't link anywhere. Right now, it just acts like a refresh button, which is completely stupid. Instead, it should just do nothing when clicked. Just use [[Image:RobloxWikiHeader.png|center|500px|link=]] to show the header, and leave the link argument empty, and it won't link anywhere.

28 January 2012

[RESOLVED] External Links

Why use an external link to the list of the editors/writers when you can use an internal link?

Here's the link for editors: Special:ListUsers/editor

And here's the link for writers: Special:ListUsers/writer

Wasn't aware you could do that. Thanks. --SNCPlay42 15:38, 31 January 2012 (EST)
Only issue with that is it doesn't list all the writers on one page. Is there some way to do that? --SNCPlay42 15:41, 31 January 2012 (EST)
I don't believe so. Although an external link, this should work: Wiki Writers. If you can figure out how to change the full URL with an internal link, let me know via my talk page.

We should never use external links when we can use internal links. And we don't need to show them all on one page, anyways. If the user wants to show them all, he'll just change the limit himself.
6 February 2012

[RESOLVED] ROBLOX HQ Link

The "ROBLOX HQ" link should be renamed to "ROBLOX Staff", which would make more sense. I mean, it's a link to a list of the ROBLOX staff, not a link to anything having to do with the ROBLOX HQ...

Same for the Lua Help page, the second header and the tutorials link both link to that page. And it's the same for the parents box too. Maybe we should remove the link in each header? Links in headers look kind of ugly, anyways.
4 March 2012
I fixed it. ~ ⇒TomTomN00 @ 21:55, 8 March 2012 (UTC)

I think we should remove the header from the emphasis box. It looks ugly to me, and anyways, why would we create a box just to put a picture? Do you think we should remove it from the box or just leave it there? --JulienDethurens 18:04, 23 March 2012 (EDT)

I personally like it, but Quenty or whoever does seem to be going overboard with the boxes. Legend26 (talk | contribs) 18:08, 23 March 2012 (EDT)
Perhaps we should just remove the header, anyways? It's not like we need a huge header at the top of the main page... The header takes up 1/4 of my screen by itself... --JulienDethurens 18:30, 23 March 2012 (EDT)
I'm going to try something on the main header at the top, replacing it with the Roblox Logo. Leave any feedback on my talk page please. ~ ⇒TomTomN00 @ 22:34, 24 March 2012 (UTC)

Moving the Page?

Why was this page moved to "Roblox"? This isn't an article about Roblox, it's the main page... I know it was originally at the "Main Page" page, but why was it moved here? I think it should be located at the "Main Page" page again. --JulienDethurens 19:43, 24 March 2012 (EDT)

I would, but we would need to edit MediaWiki:Sidebar ~ ⇒TomTomN00 @ 10:36, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
We should just remove the main page from the sidebar. I mean, why would the main page be in the navigation page? If you want to access the main page, you can just click the logo in the top-left corner. Or you can just change the url directly in the address bar. But, anyways, why would you even want to go to the main page? --JulienDethurens 07:00, 25 March 2012 (EDT)
When I'm on Wikipedia (Bureaucrat) I never go on the main page, what-so-ever. My Wikipedia is NOT Tomtomn00 ~ ⇒TomTomN00 @ 13:55, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
Myself, I would do the right thing, open up MediaWiki:Mainpage - and just change the content to Main Page. However, I'm not a sysop/bureaucrat on here. ~ ⇒TomTomN00 @ 13:58, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
Wikis don't have main pages, as in (this is the start, the rest of the Wiki branches from here). It is just another article. MrNicNac - Wiki Editor
They kind of do, the page that loads up if you type wiki.roblox.com in the address bar. ~ ⇒TomTomN00 @ 15:42, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, sure. I maintain the Roblox article and I saw your username before.
20:11, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

I feel as this may never happen, should I close it as [NOT LIKELY TO BE DONE]? ~ ⇒TomTomN00 @ 20:47, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

[RESOLVED] Maps

Very little detail, but in my opinion Make your maps do crazy things. should be replaced with Make your places do crazy things.. "Maps" is just not globally used to identify places. --Dennisvdz 11:17, 3 April 2012 (EDT)

Done. ~ ⇒TomTomN00 @ 18:39, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

Can I

Add this: User:Tomtomn00/MPB to the Main Page. I was told to ask... ~ ⇒TomTomN00 @ 18:27, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

The only reason I said you should ask is because the discussion page says you should - and the fact that you had information being repeated; such as the number of articles and edits. Also, the white of your template seems to throw off the color scheme. MrNicNac - Senior Wiki Editor
Rough colour suggestion? ~ ⇒TomTomN00 @ 18:38, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
I don't like the text sizes and the fact that "Scripting Class Reference" takes up two lines. Tenal 17:30, 8 April 2012 (EDT)
Other than the information on it being completely redundant, I was pretty okay with the appearance. I'll take this moment to point out how odd it is that the "Welcome" is in the middle of the page. I suggest the red section be changed to "About Roblox" and a Welcome box put on top. Perhaps the info in the "About the wiki" subsection can be moved there, so that it's not completely empty. --Anaminus 19:39, 8 April 2012 (EDT)
Tenal, it doesn't on my widescreen computer, where I thought it looked okay, but I'll edit it. :/ ~ ⇒TomTomN00 @ 09:19, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
Almost 10% of programmers (Gotten stats from w3schools which programmers will be visiting) use 1024x768 resolution. Regular people you'll see a large rise in that number. Go to your desktop, change your resolution to that for a few seconds and then look at it. The current homepage works from the minimum my monitor does all the way up to full HD, but your thing mucks up and scrunches together and stuff. It's perfectly fine on all resolutions above that though :)

More appealing Lua section?

Most people come to the wiki to learn how to script, returning to the forums saying that the wiki tutorials are terrible. I've been stressing the fact that we should stop worrying 100% on documentation (yes, that's important, but this is even more important) and worry about scripting tutorials. There should be a shiny button linking to a scripting tutorial (probably Absolute beginner's guide to scripting). Tenal 00:12, 10 April 2012 (EDT)

I tried making one but, it failed. User:Tomtomn00/Sandbox ~ ⇒TomTomN00 @ 10:07, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

This page is unprofessional

The descriptions really need to be remade and icons are ruining the entire page. (Again) it has no appealing "beginner scripter tutorial" button. User:Tenal/Sandbox/Main Page Tenal 20:12, 10 April 2012 (EDT)

To me it looks too childish. With all the colour, EmphasisBoxes and icons. I would use the Wikipedia main page here, if some editors would allow me to, which they do not. ~ ⇒TomTomN00 @ 12:08, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
ROBLOX is a child's game - and it's supposed to appeal to them. MrNicNac - Senior Wiki Editor
Wow, you'd actually steal another wiki's front page?
Trappingnoobs (Writer) Have I done something bad? Good? Tell me on my talk page14:48, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
No, I mean the descriptions. It's unprofessional and flat out disgusting. Same for the icons. We need to replace/remove them. Tenal 11:41, 11 April 2012 (EDT)
@MrNicNac I know Roblox is a child's game. But saying that, some older users play it, so it needs to have a bit of modification.
@Trappingnoobs - It is under a CC-SA-3.0 Unported liscence, so yes. I am allowed to "modify, edit and reuse" it. ~ ⇒TomTomN00 @ 22:18, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
But, as MrDoomBringer said TomTomn, the Wiki should appeal to those 8-12. So it does not need modifications to suit those older. MrNicNac - Senior Wiki Editor
Couldn't we try to remove around one EmphasisBox? It would make the page flow better. ~ ⇒TomTomN00 @ 23:13, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
How so? --Tenal 02:15, 12 April 2012 (EDT)

Anyway, I finished up my version of the main page for the most part. Feel free to add more onto it, then replace the current homepage. Tenal 21:50, 12 April 2012 (EDT)

Yeah. Totally professional to steal the entire source. Is all that shows is that the people who want the readers to learn to code are too lazy to code themselves.
Trappingnoobs (Writer) Have I done something bad? Good? Tell me on my talk page14:48, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
TomTomn, no. And stop worrying so much about the layout design - it is fine and looks clean and classic. Nothing needs to be done. Yours is just horrendous compared to the current. MrNicNac - Senior Wiki Editor
The only thing wrong is the paragraphs written in this page.
  • Basic math skills are needed to use Lua. That doesn't mean you can't try. (I have barely any math knowledge but know Lua.)
  • Make your places do crazy things. (Descriptive. /sarcasm)
  • [entire "Welcome to the Roblox Wiki" section] (...what)
  • Who knows, if you are dedicated enough, you might actually get your own wiki account! (Just... no.)
The icons aren't good either. They are both repetitive and ugly. Tenal 17:13, 13 April 2012 (EDT)
It's not as easy as saying 'The icons aren't good'. I'm personally not high ranked enough to change them, but you could at least provide better ones, rather than just saying they are bad. If you can't find a better one then who can, since the person who's criticising obviously should have a better alternative, otherwise it's defeating the point of criticism, no? I tried thinking of alternatives and is all I could picture is a green upwards arrow for the updates one.

(bump) Could we replace everything with this? Tenal 19:11, 17 April 2012 (EDT)

Add {{User:Tomtomn00/MPB}} or {{User:Tomtomn00/MPB/B}} to the top of it. :D ~ ⇒TomTomN00 @ 16:03, 18 April 2012 (UTC) 12:03, 18 April 2012 (EDT)
No, it is a ripoff of Wikipedia and does not look good along with the style of the wiki. Tenal 14:36, 18 April 2012 (EDT)
  • I generally like the design you have made up there Tenal. Only problem is the text of the page, ie the Welcome to Roblox section needs to remain the same. It is set by Roblox employees. So, with that in mind, we may make a change in the future. Thanks!--Gordonrox24 | Talk 20:01, 18 April 2012 (EDT)
    Is it really? I couldn't notice. Tenal 17:26, 20 April 2012 (EDT)
Out of curiosity, what don't you like with that section? It is directly from the ROBLOX About us page.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 17:43, 20 April 2012 (EDT)
It talks about the statistics and the company's goal instead of what the game actually is. Tenal 17:53, 20 April 2012 (EDT)

[RESOLVED] Correct sentence

"Roblox provides players to program in Lua,"

"Roblox provides players the ability to program in Lua," would be better.

Trappingnoobs (Writer) Have I done something bad? Good? Tell me on my talk page14:49, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
Yes, it is better-sounding. Corrected MrNicNac - Senior Wiki Editor

LuaLearners

Do you think adding a link to the LuaLearners website would be a good idea? They are the second biggest Lua teaching group on ROBLOX, they share the same goal as us and many users are learning from their website. Perhaps giving a link to their website would be useful. I've talked a little (by PMs) with the owner, coolbob44, and he agrees that it'd be a good idea. We already have a link to the book Programming in Lua on the official Lua website, so why not add one to LuaLearners, since it can help users to learn? --JulienDethurens 22:51, 21 April 2012 (EDT)

There's a Fansites page, it could be added there.
(SoulStealer9875|ROBLOX-Profile]
@ 10:43, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
It's not a fansite, LuaLearners as a site is helping us to accomplish our goal of educating people in Lua. If some people think the Wiki is too hard, it may help if they have a second site to go to other than the official Lua website. Adding a link to LuaLearners on the front page is a good idea. --OBF
The wiki is standalone. I don't think doing so would be the best idea. Tenal 16:56, 22 April 2012 (EDT)
The wiki is the only official source of help on scripting, but that doesn't mean we can't link to unofficial websites if it can help users. And the wiki isn't standalone; we work together with the blog and builderman's help page. The wiki is for help with scripting and building, the blog is for news and builderman's help is for help with ROBLOX. We also have the official Lua website which we can link to, including the reference, the book Programming in Lua which offers documentation of more advanced concepts and the source code. Then, we also have Wikipedia to document concepts that are too vast to be documented on the wiki, and we also occasionally add links to other websites. The wiki is certainly not standalone and its purpose is not to document everything, only building and scripting. The difference is that LuaLearners shares our purpose instead of having a similar, but different, purpose. Yet, I don't see why we wouldn't give a link to it. After all, as long as the intent of the site is to help and as long as the site is actually being helpful and useful enough to have an impact, linking to it can be useful. --JulienDethurens 19:28, 22 April 2012 (EDT)

[RESOLVED] Group Link

I've been wondering about the following for a while. "Want to help our great wiki team? Join the wiki group on Roblox to give suggestions to the people who write the wiki." The group article was deleted. ~ ⇒TomTomN00 @ 18:53, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

That group never had an article... --JulienDethurens 23:32, 27 April 2012 (EDT)

Capitalization Condratictions

I've noticed throughout the main page some parts say Roblox and other parts say ROBLOX. Shouldn't it stick to either one or the other?

( SoulStealer9875 , Send Message on 16:47, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
Both seem to be correct, as both are used on the website. The staff sometimes uses ROBLOX and sometimes uses Roblox. There doesn't seem to be any correct capitalization. --JulienDethurens 16:54, 30 April 2012 (EDT)
